Samsung Releasing White Galaxy S II in August

It seems that Samsung is set to release the Galaxy S II in white. It will be the just like the international Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 but in white colour. The device is said to be coming out early next month (August). Handtec UK is already taking pre-orders for the white version. Were not sure if the entire device will be in white or whether the front or back alone will be in white. Samsung are also said to be readying another version of the Galaxy S II with slightly better specifications including a faster processor. Perhaps this upgraded model might be released in white as well. For people who already have the black version of the Galaxy S II and would like it in white, you can try the Glas protector from SGP. It gives you an option of White, Pink or Back front plate which doubles as a screen protector. source

Engadget's next reader meetup happens in NYC on August 25th!

Engadget's next reader meetup happens in NYC on August 25th!
Oh, hi! How are you? It's been so long! We know, we've been busy, but we're going to be in town soon. Very soon! In less than a month we'll be having a get-together for lots and lots (and lots) of our closest friends -- and yes, you're totally invited. We'll be hosting the event on the evening of August 25th and it takes place at Guastavino's, a top-shelf venue on 59th Street in New York City. It'll be an all-ages gig where you and your friends can try out some of the hottest tech you've read about here, debate with the editors about Windows Phone vs. Android vs. iOS vs. RIM vs. whatever, and maybe go home with one of the many, many great prizes we'll be giving away.

We'll have more posts with more details in the coming weeks as we get closer to the day in question, but if you're a member of the media who would like to attend, an exhibitor who wants to show something off to the fans, or a sponsor who wants to be a part of the insanity (readers, hold tight!), please e-mail us at meetup at engadget dot com. Until then!

Engadget's next reader meetup happens in NYC on August 25th! originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

The battle between Nokia and Apple is well known. In the end Apple was forced to pay licensing fees to Nokia. Now another lawsuit has been filed by InterDigital against Nokia, ZTE and Huawei. InterDigital states that the three companies are using unfair trade practices and importing 3G devices like mobile, hotspots, tablets and computers into USA. These devices infringe on the patents held by InterDigital. No details regarding which patents were infringed have been given. but we should expect to see a lot of the battle in the news considering the kind of companies involved. via | source

SA agrees: Apple now top smartphone vendor in the world with 140% growth

BGR reported last week that Apple had passed Nokia in the second quarter of 2011 to become the world’s top smartphone vendor by volume. The Cupertino-based company had already been No. 1 in the world by profits for quite some time. Apple shipped 20.3 million smartphones last quarter, up more than 140% from the 8.4 million iPhones it shipped in the same quarter last year. The only company to show more impressive gains: Samsung. The South Korea-based vendor slid into the No. 2 spot by growing a remarkable 520% year-over-year to ship 19.2 million smartphones last quarter. Falling to

Sprint and LightSquared confirm agreement, 15 years worth of LTE network sharing and more

The rumors were true, but given the long, torrid affair between these two it shouldn't be a surprise. Sprint and LightSquared have confirmed their intentions to the world, stepping into a whopping 15 year agreement that will be worth $9 billion in cash for Sprint and will save LightSquared an estimated $13 billion. LightSquared will have the right to sell access to Sprint's burgeoning LTE network, while Sprint can also piggy-back on the other's existing capacity where needed. Additionally, LightSquared will be able to roam on Sprint's current 3G network, opening new doors for one while helping the other accelerate its apparent transition to LTE. This is of course good news for Sprint and naturally for LightSquared, which is trying desperately to put the whole GPS fiasco behind it. The loser? Clearwire, we'd say -- and WiMAX in general.
